Keep in mind; the purpose of a fast is to draw closer to The Lord. You are setting aside a specific time to fill up with more of God. It’s not a competition; don’t overthink it. Jesus lived as one of us for over thirty years, and fasted often. He understands what you’re going through. Matthew tells about one of Jesus’ fasts in Matthew 4:2, “After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry” (NIV). This happened just before Jesus was tempted in the desert and then started His full-time ministry. Don’t underestimate the power of taking a step closer to God.
Annie, I have to take my anticonvulsants at 12 hour intervals as well. I’ll be taking them with water in the am. I won’t be eating till 10 am and I will restart my fast after 6 pm. Just starting today. Hoping to to kick my ketosis into high gear. Very optimistic. We all have things we have to work around and deal with, this is one of mine. Keto is for me and I think IF is too. Mattson points out that, from an evolutionary perspective, the brain power that fasting generates makes sense. Mammals typically go days without food, often hunting on an empty belly. I'm searching for help. I was once fit and trim and beautiful. Now, today, I feel gross we helpless. From 170lbs to 237.4lbs.... And I hate it! I'm going to begin trying intermittent fasting starting now. The last I ate was approximately 30 minutes ago, so 7 p.m. This means tomorrow my breakfast/lunch should fall at around 1p.m to give me a 16 hour fast and then dinner at 6 to begin my fast again at 7 p.m.. Correct? Can you also tell me how to proceed with my fasting schedule? Still add 15minutes/half an hour gradually building to 20 hour fasts? Is it acceptable to fast for.longer, perhaps 22-24 hours? Before beginning your fast, decide when you’re eating and what you’ll be eating then. 4) A sensitivity to God’s voice. The New Testament prophetess Anna is praised in the book of Luke for being a devoted servant to God and His temple. Because she regularly fasted and prayed, she was able to hear the voice of God speak clearly to her the day that Baby Jesus was brought into her temple to be dedicated. She knew He was the Christ and told everyone who would listen about His arrival. When we detox the spirit and become consumed with desire and praise for God, we become sensitive to His voice. Like Anna, when God speaks to us in the midst of chaos, we’ll still be able to pick out His voice and know what He wants us to do because we have trained our ear to hear Him through fasting, prayer, study and praise.
